As tile professionals, we get asked a lot of questions by everyone, from customers to family members to curious mail carriers! But we love sharing our love and knowledge of tile. Below are some of the questions we get asked most frequently.
What should I bring when I visit your showroom?
Everything but the kitchen sink! (unless…) We encourage clients to bring anything that might help them during their tile selection, including blueprints or design sketches; paint, counter top, or cabinet samples; current or inspiration photos; and other coordinating home decor. For more about what to bring and what to expect during your visit, see our How to Prepare for your Showroom Visit guide.
Do I need an appointment?
Though an appointment is not required, making an appointment is always recommended. By scheduling an appointment, you’re guaranteed one-on-one time with our showroom consultants, all of whom are tile industry professionals and interior designers. To schedule an appointment, give your preferred showroom a call!
Is there someone on site to help me with my design ideas?
All of our showroom consultants have a background in interior design. We are proud of our very talented and knowledgeable design staff. We are eager to work with you to bring your vision to life.
Can I take samples home?
We are happy to loan samples with a refundable deposit. In the case of a strike-off or special order piece there is a non-refundable charge for the piece plus shipping and handling.
Is it necessary to fill out a selection sheet?
The selection sheet organizes your choices for the material for your project. It details everything your contractor, design professional, dealer or builder will need to complete your order. It also helps us for possible follow-up visits or any questions you may have in the future.
How long will it take to get my tile?
Material in stock in one of our warehouses will be available within 3 business days. Tile that is part of our quick-ship program can arrive within 1 – 2 weeks. Tile shipping from domestic manufacturers or warehouses usually arrives within 2 – 4 weeks. Special order material is often 4 – 6 weeks. Custom made or import orders can be up to 12 weeks. Freight charges apply to all non-stock special order items.
Do you have tile that fits my budget?
We are pleased to offer tile at every price point. If you have a budget for your project, feel free to ask our showroom consultants to show you the appropriate collections within your range. If you have an allowance for tile, ask if that includes installation.
Can you match this tile?
Matching older tile can be a challenge. With rapid changes in consumer buying habits and improvements to technology, manufacturers are constantly adapting new and old tile collections alike. Even a tile that comes from a collection still in production, new tile may be of a different dye lot or glaze formula, which will show in variations of color between old and new tile. The more information you can provide for us the better our ability to help you.
How do I order my tile?
Our tile is sold through the trade: tile contractors, retail dealers, architects, designers and builders. You will need to consult with your trade professional for measuring and placing the final order.
Do I have to seal seal my tile?
This depends on the kind of tile. Natural stone must always be sealed. It is recommended by the manufacturers we represent tile with a crackle finish always be sealed. Porcelain tile typically does not need to be sealed, though you may want to seal your grout, or choose a stain resistant grout such as Custom Building Products FUSIONPRO.
How do I clean my tile?
Porcelain tile can be cleaned by sweeping, vacuuming and damp-mopping using a cleaner specifically made for tile. Glass cleaners may be used in some cases with glass tile, but it is recommended to check with the manufacturer to be sure. pH neutral cleaners specifically manufactured for the care of natural stone are recommended for natural stone tile.
If you have a question on a specific collection we carry, feel free to contact us!
What kind of grout should I use?
The type of grout used is typically related to the width of the grout joint. If the tile will be laid with a grout joint of less than 1/8″, a non-sanded grout should be used. If the joint is greater than 1/8″, a sanded grout should be used.
How do I find a good installer?
We work with many installers and other industry professionals and are happy to give recommendations based on your local area.
